And now, for once, I agree with Zohran Mamdani

The Zohran says, correctly, ICE can’t enter a private space, such as a home, without your permission, or without a judicial warrant. Suspects do not have to open their doors.

And now, for once, I agree with Zohran Mamdani
A still frame from The Zohran’s know your rights video

Democratic socialist, New York City mayor-elect and pet rock Zohran Mamdani has a number of screwy ideas that are detached from reality.

He not only believes in pie in the sky, but believes he can feed it to 8 million Noo Yawkers. (Actually, there are so many Central and South American illegals in Noo Yawk I am going to have to change the typical accent to sound like Nueva York.)

But when he’s right, he’s right.

Hold it.

He’s never “Right.” What I mean is “correct.”

And The Zohran, which is what I call him, is being bashed by some on the Right, (Fox News, cough, cough), for a 90-second video that critics describe as a how-to manual on fighting ICE, which he pledges to do.

Well, it kind of is that, but there is nothing wrong with that or posting it on social media.

I said “kind of,” because among the advice he gives to people who encounter ICE is this: “It is important to remain calm during any interaction with ICE, or law enforcement. Do not impede their investigation, resist arrest, or run.”

That doesn’t sound radical to me. Here’s a link https://youtu.be/Tq-KqQXy4LE?si=vGT0jg0XhWKLpEbi to the tape. Listen to it  yourself.

What you will hear is a recitation of basic rights anyone on American soil enjoys, whether a citizen or not. These rights, guaranteed by the Constitution, apply even to criminals. That is not pie in the sky, it is a fact.

Like many on the Left, The Zohran refuses to distinguish between legal and illegal immigrants. (And yes, a person can be “illegal.”) Many on the Left, in their goodheartedness and real-life brainlessness, want Open Borders.

That may sound good to them (like “defund the police”), but there are actual consequences. Open Borders is a recipe for national suicide, because we can’t survive if everyone who wants to come here is allowed to come here. In a global poll, Gallup estimates 150 million people would come crashing through the gates if they could.

That would increase our population by about 50%.

Where would they work? There are not enough jobs to go around. How could they buy food to eat? How could schools accommodate their children? Where could they get medical service if they fall ill? Where could they live when we have inadequate housing now?

When you think of those questions, you will understand why I call Open Borders national suicide, and why the number of immigrants admitted  must be regulated as they almost always have been.

Back to the video.

The Zohran never says to fight with ICE, but to know your rights, which he enumerates, and none of them are more radical than the Miranda warning that has been given to criminal suspects since the 1960s.

The Zohran says, correctly, ICE can’t enter a private space, such as a home, without your permission, or without a judicial warrant. Suspects do not have to open their doors.

ICE, like other law enforcement, has the right to lie to you, he says. You read that right — cops can lie and mislead you.

Suspects have the right to remain silent, The Zohran says, and should ask “Am I free to leave?” If you are not under arrest, you are free to leave.

Suspects are free to film ICE activities, but must not impede them, he says.

Not radical at all. A carefully crafted mixture of common sense and established law.

Don’t misread this as putting me on Mamdani’s side.

I am not. I am on the side of obeying the law, which in this case coincides with The Zohran.

And because I believe in obeying the law, I oppose illegal immigration, unlike The Zohran.
