Trump searches for way to punish Sanctuary Cities

Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Dave McCormick believes that President Donald J. Trump has “every right” to withhold federal funding from so-called Sanctuary Cities that limit or prohibit cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

Unfortunately, he is wrong.

And as Pennsylvania’s Republican senator, he should have known that when Trump, in his first term, tried to cut funds to Philadelphia, Mayor Jim Kenney took the feds to court, and won, resulting in Jimmy’s in-office jerky jig, giggling “We are a Sanctuary City.”

It was an embarrassment for Philadelphians who believe no one is above the law,  including those here without permission.

Why did our city — and others — win in court?

The Constitution’s separation of powers clause affirms that only Congress has the power to decide how federal funds are allocated, and that the federal government can’t coerce states or local governments by the threat of withholding funds.

The same concept bars the federal government from imposing conditions of the payments.

That would hold true for any payments authorized by congress, whether to PBS or Voice of America.

Me? I would love for the feds to find a way to cut funds to Philadelphia, my city, my home. And I know lights are burning late at night at the Department of Justice to find a way to punish so-called Sanctuary Cities.

I am willing to see my city suffer funding cuts to force the Democratic horses’ asses to screw their heads on straight and start obeying the law. That doesn’t mean they have to actively work with ICE, just give the feds access to information on the convicted foreign felons that live among us.

And they do, safe in the knowledge that city police have been ordered not to talk to the feds (although there may be a chink in that wall.) When it comes to illegals, there’s a whole new meaning to Philadelphia Freedom.

When soft-headed saps like former Mayor Jim Kenney and former City Council President Darrell Clarke (and possibly current Council President Kenyatta Johnson) talk about Philly being a “welcoming” city — when the subject is illegals — I want to vomit.

They are “welcoming” lawbreakers. And orderly immigration is a law, this one, no matter how many times the Open Border weasels say it isn’t. Denial isn’t only a river in Egypt.

And I never want to hear any mealy-mouth Democrat croak “no one is above the law” when they support Sanctuary Cities that surely put illegals as far above the law as William Penn is above City Hall, the heart of darkness.

ICE has made some damaging mistakes lately,  but its mission is to enforce immigration law, by rounding up and deporting people living here without authorization. It is a law enforcement outfit, and being against ICE puts you in the same bucket as the “defund the police” fools. Remember them?

The Democrats hope you will forget that many of them were screaming that in the streets. The damaging perception that Democrats are anti-cop certainly helped Donald J. Trump attain the presidency.

About the only favorable rating Trump now has is on keeping his promise to close the border. Sanctuary Cities create Open Borders, meaning anyone who gets there won’t be removed.

Sanctuary Cities are contrary to law, and unpopular with most Americans. If Trump’s lawyers come up with a legal way to drop the hammer on the so- called Sanctuaries, it will be me doing a jig.
