Come meet the Democratic Socialists of America

You have no debt. You don’t need health insurance. You don’t pay a mortgage or have a landlord. . . Your retirement is publicly funded. Food, education, energy, medicine, and transportation aren’t for-profit businesses. . . What if you didn’t have to think about paying rent or loans at the end of the month?

“Once upon a time” is how fairy tales begin, and what you just read is how the Democratic Socialists of America open a list of their programs.

To open this lecture at the Stu-niversity, let’s start by saying that socialism is not communism.

Socialism permits private ownership of property, businesses, and personal goods, and allows people to be compensated based on their skill and work effort. 

Major corporations may be privately owned, but are regulated by the state. Utilities such as electricity and transportation may be run by the state. 

Under communism, there is no private property, there is no free enterprise, and the state owns everything.

Socialists generally work within democratic frameworks to reduce wealth inequality, and provide essential services, such as health care and education, while still allowing free enterprise.

Communism has no use for democracy, or free enterprise, and seeks to produce a stateless, classless and moneyless society where all production is collectively managed. Everything is produced in abundance and shared freely based on human need. That is the theory.

And, yes, it is true Karl Marx said socialism is a transitional step between capitalism and communism, but that doesn’t mean he was right. He also believed that Marxism would produce a system with no government. When has that happened?

With that background, let’s take a look at the recently updated platform of the Democratic Socialists of America.

Let’s start with the evergreen abolish ICE.

I mean, who on the Left doesn’t want to abolish ICE? It’s a cliche, reflecting back to the glory days of 2020 when many Democrats were screaming to defund the police. Many still are.

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) have got that beat — they want no ICE, no police, no war department, no prisons. They want open borders.

When they say they want to “draft a new Constitution,” that means dispensing with the current one, the one that has served us for almost 250 years.

Amending the Constitution requires two steps: two-thirds of a vote in Congress, or a national convention called by two-thirds of state legislatures. That is followed by ratification of three-fourths of the states.

The DSA is mum on how they will clear that hurdle.

And clear it they must to achieve some of their other idiotic radical ideas.

Such as?

• Abolish the Electoral College
• Abolish the Senate
• Replace the President
• Abolish the Supreme Court
• Replace the Executive and Judiciary with appointees named by, and subordinate to an expanded Congress (which has an approval rating of 15%, per the latest Gallup poll). 

All of the above violate the Constitution, which doesn’t seem to shatter the pipe dreams of the Democratic Socialists.

Look — a few of their ideas are worth discussing, but in the agregate they are fucking insane outside our traditional democratic framework.

Let’s move along with more of their ravings ideas.

“The people” take over ownership of the largest corporations and enact “aggressive” taxes on the richest individuals and corporations.

Also hot buttons are “feminism for all,” “green new deal,” a 32-hour work week with full benefits, free education and healthcare, new public hospitals and medical education and training free to all.

Housing is a “human right,” and so is rent control. Abolish police and prisons, grant immediate amnesty to all illegals.

Its total foreign policy is expressed in two words: “Free Palestine.”

Any interest in China’s oppression of the Uyghurs? No.

Christians being slaughtered in Africa? No one cares.

Ethnic cleansing in Sudan? Yawn.

Haiti as a failed state? Ho-hum.

DSA has a very narrow POV when it comes to oppression. It seems unquestionably Jew-centric.

DSA has demonstrated power in the limousine liberal districts of New York, but how many of its supporters understand the breadth of its radical, unAmerican agenda.

The more you know, the less you like.
