Hey, Phillies: Bring on the cheerleaders!

Let’s be clear — the cheerleaders would be subordinate and an accessory to the Phanatic, who is #1.

Hey, Phillies: Bring on the cheerleaders!
The Braves’ Tomahawk Team keeps interest up

Out of boredom, my eyes wandered during Thursday night’s elimination of the team with the fourth-largest payroll in MLB (behind the Dodgers, Mets and Yankees).

In some wide shots, I saw something interesting atop the Braves dugout.

We have the Phanatic, bless his heart.

They have the Tomahawk Team, female cheerleaders. You see some pictured above.

Yay!

From the Braves’ website:

The Tomahawk Team are the sweetest and most spirited group of Braves Ambassadors in the South! Their high energy and big smiles are sure to lift everyone's spirits as they interact with Atlanta Braves fans at Truist Park. You can find them performing in The Battery Atlanta Plaza and shooting T-shirts from the field prior to 1st pitch. During the game, they will be on the big screen, at special seat visits, and dancing on the dugouts during the 7th inning stretch! Come see for yourself how The Tomahawk Team can make a little Southern charm can go a long way in Braves Country.

Here’s an idea the Phillies can steal. (The Tigers, the Mets, the Brewers, and the Padres all have promotional crews, hype teams, and dance squads. Baseball cheerleaders and dance teams are big in Japan.)

The Eagles have cheerleaders, the Sixers have a dance team, it’s time for the Phillies to step up. And while I make that suggestion, seasoned fans will remember the team was about halfway there in the ‘70s with the Hot Pants Patrol, female ushers and hostesses.

Let’s be clear — the cheerleaders would be subordinate and an accessory to the Phanatic, who is #1. But the fems could be a new, useful foil to Big Green, now that he doesn’t have Tommy LaSorda any more.

Is it sexist? Are cheerleaders sexist?

1- Maybe.

2- Who cares?

If you care, get a life.

While on this subject, in three Eagles games, I don’t recall seeing a shot of the Eagles cheerleaders on the sidelines. What I especially don’t recall seeing is the Eagles’ male cheerleaders, now two, I think.

There has been a male on the squad since 2019, my AI assistant tells me.

I have seen so-called “beauty shots” in past seasons, but I don’t recall seeing males. Readers with sharper eyes than mine can chime in.

The time has come, Phillies.

If you can’t bring us a flag, at least give us cheerleaders.
